Yearbook Spread Assignments
Purpose: Use your knowledge about the elements of a yearbook spread to create your own layout on Studioworks+.. Directions: You have been given a login to StudioWorks+ and assigned a two- page spread on the ladder. Your mission is to create the layout for the spread that highlights one of the following categories: Academics, Student Life, Sports, Clubs/Organizations, Class pages, Transitions, ect. In addition, your spread should include all of the following elements: ●An eyeline that horizontally spans the entire spread. ●A dominant package: ○This package should be the largest package on the spread. It should contain a dominant photo that crosses the gutter. ○A text box large enough to contain a dominant story. A dominant story is usually 2-3 paragraphs. ●For your dominant story, create a story from the questions and answers used during your interview practice. ○This should contain at least three quotes. You should submit a completed quote form along with your printed spread. ○Your dominant story should be in the past tense. All captions, if you choose to write them, should be in the present tense. ○You should have a headline and a byline for your dominant package. If you are unsure what these are, ask an editor! ●2-4 smaller packages that contain pictures and captions (these should be in the present tense) ○One package may be a sidebar or a quick write ■A quick write is a survey, a quote box, a graphic, or something short that include texts boxes and picture boxes is about one topic related to the students at your school ○Includes text boxes and picture boxes ●A folio (page number) ●Any additional graphic elements you would like to include You should have an editor proof your page at least once prior to turning it in to the adviser for a grade. The adviser will NOT accept any spread that has not been edited. Your work on these spreads are a direct reflection of your knowledge, your dedication to the book, your ability to work under pressure, and your commitment to the overall goal. You will have just FIVE days to work on this assignment in class, under supervision, and with assistance from your editors. You will also have time out of class. Use ALL resources available to you.
